Traffic and conversion for indie apps

January 18, 2026 · 7 min read

When you're a solopreneur, traffic and conversion aren't separate problems. They're the same loop.

Traffic without conversion is a leak. Conversion without traffic is a ghost town. You need both, and you need to know which one is the bottleneck before you optimize the wrong thing.

Diagnosing the bottleneck:

Low traffic, decent conversion: your landing page works but nobody sees it. Invest in SEO, content, social, communities, and partnerships. Your personal brand site and blog are traffic engines — use them.

High traffic, low conversion: people arrive but don't sign up. Fix the landing page, onboarding, and offer. A/B test headlines and CTAs before building new features.

Low on both: pick one channel and one audience segment. Go deep before you go wide.

Traffic tactics that compound for B2C SaaS:

Write about problems your apps solve — not just product updates. Problem-aware content ranks in search and builds trust before the pitch.

Build in public on social. Share metrics, failures, and wins. Authenticity converts better than polished launch threads.

Cross-link between your personal site and app landing pages. Every blog post should have a natural path to a product.

Conversion tactics that work:

Reduce steps to value. Every form field and confirmation screen costs you users.

Use urgency honestly. Launch discounts and early-access lists work when they're real — not manufactured scarcity.

Follow up. Email sequences for trial users and newsletter subscribers recover conversions you'd otherwise lose.

Maximize traffic. Maximize conversion. Measure which is limiting you this month. Repeat.
